Board Director

After 19 years of teaching, I looked forward to my retirement. With the upcoming free time, I looked forward to time with children and grandchildren, time for home projects and time for travel. I also hoped to do some volunteer work. Life changed in the winter of 2007 for me & my husband. When our daughter’s schizoaffective journey began, she was 26. An aunt suggested NAMI for help.

A close friend spoke very highly of their regular support meetings. These meetings taught me so much about mental illness. They also made me aware of available resources for helping our daughter. In 2015, I became a serious volunteer for the NAMI cause.

Since then, I have served on our Board, ran the annual Boscov’s fundraiser for seven years, assisted with other fundraisers and most important of all attended well over a hundred support group meetings.

As a volunteer, I hope to inspire, our new members and make aware the true value of our organization. At these bi-monthly meetings we are afforded a time and place to speak openly of our individual stories. Finally, as a 17 year NAMI member, these meetings remind me that we can survive the difficulties mental illness presents, and that we truly are not alone when facing them.
