Supportive Listening

Robert Chain, Director

Board Director

For fifteen years Bob represented the affiliate at the Southern Reginal conference meetings headed by Phil Lubitz of NAMI New Jersey. As a member of this committee, he made a presentation about social programs for people with metal health concerns to the New Jersey State Mental Health Planning Board. NAMI Burlington County currently sponsors a social program for people with mental health concerns called Burlington Adult Society coordinated by his wife Winifred Chain.

He was one of the representatives from NAMI FACE on the NAMI New Jersey planning committee for the NAMI New Jersey Pioneering Walk for Metal Illness. The 2003 NAMI Walk was the first Statewide Fund-Raising program held in the State of New Jersey. The Walk’s starting point was set at the Human Services Building in Westampton, New Jersey. Bob was honored by NAMI New Jersey at the annual meeting held that year for his work on the Pioneering Walk program.

In June of 2015, Bob was honored at NAMI New Jersey 30th Anniversary Celebration Luncheon as long-Term Affiliate leaders for over 25 years of outstanding service and dedication that strengthen the NAMI FACE Burlington County affiliate programs.

In 2018 Bob represented NAMI FACE Burlington County on the NAMI New Jersey Affiliates re-affiliation program committee with NAMI National. He was instrumental in making changes to the affiliate’s bylaws and other various affiliate documents to meet re-affiliation requirements. He was instrumental in the name change of the affiliate from NAMI FACE to NAMI Burlington County by filing the proper documentations with the State of New Jersey and the Internal Revenue Service. This was the final re-affiliation requirement set by NAMI National.

In 2020 NAMI New Jersey celebrated 35 years of support by recognizing their mental health advocates. Bob received the NAMI NJ Spirit Awards for embodying the spirit of NAMI NJ by volunteering, inspiring, being helpful, and hopeful.

Give us a call to see how you can. There is still so much to do.

Volunteers help to foster a sense of community where individuals can feel heard and understood, ultimately contributing to the destigmatization of mental health issues and encouraging more open dialogue in society
